MARID VI Special Issue is published!
I am very happy to let you know that the Special Issue published in Earth Surface Processes and Landforms following the MARID VI conference in Bremen in 2019 is now published!
You can read the introduction to the special issue

Publication list for 2020 added
I finally managed to take the time to look for bedforms-related publications. I just added 41 references to the publication list of 2020.
Wishing you all good holidays, I hope you manage to see your loved ones safely, and get to relax after such a demanding year.
MARID VII will take place in 2023 in Brittany, France
Thierry Garlan and the organising committee from the Université de Rennes, France, have announced that the next MARID will not take place in 2022 as initially planned, but in 2023. This is due to the report of many conferences to 2021 and 2022 after the cancellation of most conferences in 2020. It is also to allow researchers who were delayed due to facilities closure and care duties to carry on their work and present new exciting results at the 7th International Conference on Marine and River Dune Dynamics in 2023.
Thierry Garlan and the organising committee of MARID VII are looking forward to welcoming you in Brittany in 2023.
vEGU21 bedform session announcement
I cannot believe it is already nearly one year since my last announcement! Like everyone else, I had very little time this year, what with one thing and another, and I have not yet managed to take care of the MARID website. I will soon add all the new publications (we are nearly finished with our MARID Special Issue in Earth Surface Processes and Landforms).
Still, I am happy to announce that there will be a bedform session at the next EGU, this time again virtual.
For all river, marine, glacial, volcanic and extra-terrestrial geomorphologists and sedimentologists, we would like to draw your attention to the EGU session that we organise on “Bedform morphodynamics on Earth and in extra-terrestrial environments: current understanding of a complex interplay”. We invite contributions regarding all aspects of bedform dynamics and sedimentary structures on Earth and in extra-terrestrial environments. The deadline for the receipt of abstracts is the 13th of January 2021, 13:00 CET.
For the full description of the session, please see https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU21/session/39691.
From 19 – 30 April 2021, EGU will be hosting vEGU21: Gather Online (#vEGU21), a fully virtual conference that aims at providing a similar experience to the annual General Assembly, normally held in Vienna. All sessions will be in the new EGU virtual PICO (vPICO) format, which offers the opportunity to address a truly worldwide and diverse audience.
We are looking forward to receiving your abstracts and welcoming you to our vPICO bedform session!
Kind regards,
Suleyman Naqshband, Anne Baar, Alice Lefebvre, Francesco Salese and Thaiënne van Dijk.

EGU session with focus on bedforms
Dear flow and bedform enthusiasts,
Don’t forget to submit an abstract to the specialized session on “Flow and bedform dynamics: current understanding of a complex interplay” at the EGU General Assembly 2020, for which we invite contributions regarding all aspects of flow, bedform dynamics and sedimentary structures, from modelling to experiments to field quantification. We’re delighted to welcome Katrien Van Landeghem (Bangor University, UK) as our invited speaker.
The Bedform session is in the PICO format, which comprises 2- or 3 minute oral presentations and a long discussion session afterwards to share your results in interactive presentations on your own screen. For abstract submission and the full description of the session, please see https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020/session/36491. Abstracts can be submitted within the session link above until the 15th of January 2020, 13:00 CET.
We are very happy to announce that we intend to launch a Special Issue in Solid Earth, focusing on “Linking sedimentary structures and bedforms with flow dynamics“. We would like to invite all participants of the EGU2020 Flow and Bedform dynamics session to contribute to the special issue. Please let us know whether you are interested by mid-January 2020, by sending an e-mail to Guilhem Amin Douillet (guilhem.douillet@geo.unibe.ch).
We look forward to receiving your abstracts and welcoming you to our PICO Bedform session in Vienna!
Merry Christmas and happy holidays,
Anne Baar, Maria Azpiroz-Zabala, Guilhem Douillet, Alice Lefebvre and Thaiënne van Dijk.

MARID VI proceedings
The 6th international conference on River and Marine Dune Dynamics, MARID VI, organised by MARUM- Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen, the University of Kiel and the French Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Office (SHOM), took place in Bremen with scientific sessions on 1 and 2 April. The conference welcomed 65 participants from 12 countries.
The scientific programme included 3 keynote lectures, 30 oral presentations and 15 poster presentations, a visit of MARUM, as well as a short course on Bedforms-ATM. On Wednesday 3 April, many participants took part in the excursion organised at the North Sea coast and on the Weser.
The proceedings are now available online
