First call for abstract MARID VI

On behalf of the Scientific and Organising Committees, we are pleased to invite you to participate in the 6th edition of the
Conference series on Marine and River Dune Dynamics (MARID), taking place 1-3 April 2019 (scientific sessions 1 & 2 April, excursion 3 April).

MARID VI will take place in Bremen, Germany.

The aim of this meeting is to encourage effective communication between physicists, geologists, biologists and modellers to improve our understanding of bedform dynamics with particular attention to societal relevance.

Three speakers are already scheduled to give keynote lectures: Prof. Dr. Dan Parsons (University of Hull), Prof. Dr. Cheng Heqin (East China Normal University) and Dr. Pieter C. Roos (University of Twente).

The conference is open to all professionals and stakeholders dealing with bedform dynamics. MARID VI will offer student travel grants and will make awards available for their high standard contributions to the meeting by young scientists.
Please forward this invitation to your colleagues and students!

Visit our website for more details: https://www.marum.de/en/Research/MARID.html

Submission of extended abstracts for oral or poster presentations is due by Tuesday 30 October 2018. Please use the template that is provided, and keep to a length of 2 to 6 pages (all inclusive). Details on how to submit are available on https://www.marum.de/en/Research/MARID/Abstract.html

If you have any questions, feel free to send an email to marid@marum.de

Hoping to see you in Bremen,

MARID website needs you!

The MARID website aims at:

  • Provide a focus and a communication platform for international research on sedimentary bedform dynamics
  • To share information on tools and best practice that will aid the efficiency and consistency of research methods.
  • To support early-career scientists in their research through travel grant opportunities, promotion of their work and networking opportunities

To do so, we need YOUR input! Let us know if you have a new project, toolbox or publication (maridwebsite@gmail.com)

Welcome to the MARID website

To understand marine and river dune dynamics, the MARID community combines expertise from a variety of disciplines including geology, engineering, geomorphology, environmental management, hydrography and biology. The community meets every few years at a dedicated international conference to share findings derived from observations, modelling and experiments. MARIDV was held in North Wales in April 2016 and MARIDVI will be held in Bremen, Germany, in 2019.

With this website, the MARID community aims to:

  • Provide a focus and a communication platform for international research on sedimentary bedform dynamics
  • To share information on tools and best practice that will aid the efficiency and consistency of research methods.
  • To support early-career scientists in their research through travel grant opportunities, promotion of their work and networking opportunities

If you would like to share data, best practice or research tools, or if you have news on publications, meetings or job opportunities, please email directly to
